Akoostik News January 2018

Posted by: Wingham Akoostik Festival | On: July 9, 2018

Akoostik 2018 is looking like a big year, read our latest news here.

Wingham Akoostik Festival is off to a flying start, we have had loads of artists apply already but we are keeping applications open until the end of February. So its not too late to ask your favourite band to apply, here’s the link http://www.akoostik.com.au/artists.

Akoostik is excited to welcome back Smokin’ the Valley. This year Smokin’ the Valley will host 35 teams in contest to win the championship round of the Australian BBQ Alliance. This year will we will also see the second year of the Junior BBQ competition. We love the little chefs who are taking on the big boys ! It’s great to see , so don’t miss out on your tour through the smokers this year.

Brendan Gallagher is returning to Wingham! On Thursday the 1st of March Brendan Gallagher will be playing a solo show at Bent on Food. Door charge is $15, call Bent on Food to book now 02) 6557 0727

Fully licenced venue – book a seat and dine on a beautiful meal listening to the fabulous Brendan Gallagher.

Karma County front man and ARIA award winner Brendan Gallagher casts a long shadow in Australian music – over thirty records in as many years.

Finally , we want to thank all of you for doing such a fine job last year on our War on Waste. We are proud to report the Waste audit completed the day following the festival confirmed the partnership with Mid Waste and sponsorship from J R Richards assisted the festival to reduce the amount of discarded items sent to landfill from 100% in 2016 to 51 % in 2017.

So 49% of waste was successfully diverted to recycling or to a local vermiculturalist, where worms break the green waste back to soil. The soil has now been placed with the Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services community garden for their vegetable beds to grow lush veges for our salads next year !  Our Aim is waste free by 2020!
